Not sure what to look for?, need advice?. Most anglers consider weight to be the most important factor when buying a pole. This is not strictly true as the rigidity, or stiffness, is possibly a greater consideration – coupled with balance (a balanced, heavier, pole can actually feel lighter than an unbalanced, lighter pole). Other factors to consider are the elastic rating – it’s not advisable to fish for big carp with a pole that is only rated to a 12 elastic. The length of a pole is also a key factor – it’s worth noting that in most commercial fisheries you will need at least 13 metres to reach far bank and island cover where the fish are likely to be. Also, consider the availabilty of spare sections is of utmost importance – this is where top brand manufacturers score highly as they generally stock a good selection of spares for years after launching a new pole. If you are still not sure, check out our buying guide.
